What types of Dynalite are available?

RAC006 = Lucas C40
RAC006A = Lucas C40 for Alfa

The Dynalite looks like a dynamo but is a lightweight alternator

Machined from a solid block of aluminium the Dynalite is designed to look just like a Lucas dynamo but offers the advantage of the vastly improved charging abilities of the alternator.

The Dynalite offers around 80% more power producing 40 amps and at the same time reduces weight by about 40%.

Not only do you get the advantages of an alternator but reliability is improved even further as the control box is no longer needed and can be removed or just bypassed if you want to retain the under bonnet look of your classic car.

How do I know the type of dynamo fitted?

You should find the type of dynamo stamped on the body. If not, the following is a list of the most popular Lucas dynamo types and the distance between the front & rear mounting brackets.

C40 = 144mm
C40L = 155mm
C42 = 174 mm
C45 = 166mm

If you have one of the popular Lucas dynamos fitted then the Dynalite will be a simple replacement. With the exception of the positive earth unit, only three wires need reconnecting at the control box and on the C40 to C42 versions, you may need to drill out the old pulley to fit on the new Dynalite. Even if you don't have one of the Lucas dynamos just pick the nearest bracket size and install a spacer and still retain the look of a dynamo.
